Druids' Gala. — A meeting of the Druids' Gala Committee will be held at the Druids' Hall to-day, at 8 p.m. A full attendance of delegates is requested.

Heathcote Beidge SroETb. — Owing to the unfavourable weather the 100 yds maiden race to be run in the grounds of the Heathcote Bridge Hotel last evening, was postponed till next Thursday. Avon Packet Company. — A general meeting of ohareholders of the Avon Steam Packet and Dredging Company (Limited) will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday at the City Council Chambers. Death of an Old Resident. — Yesterday Mrs Cain, the wife of Patrick Cain, died at Lyttelton. Mrs Cain and her husband came to Lyttelton in the ship Clontarf, which arrived on St Patrick's Day, 1860, and they have lived at the Marine Borough ever since, where they were well and favourably known.

Canterbury Caledonian Society. — The annual 6iipper of the Canterbury Caledonian Society will be held at their roomß to-morrow evening, when, it is to be hoped, there will be a large gathering of Scotchmen to re-kindle the memories of their native land and enjoy themselves in hearty Caledonian fashion. ■

Lawn Tennis. — The New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association have arranged to hold their championship meeting at Lancaster Paik on Jan. 1, 2 and 3. The leading players of the Colony, including Mr Minden Penwicke, the present champion, have signified their intention of being present. Entries for the different events will close with the Secretary, Mr F. H. Bruges, on Dec. 24.

Pioneer Bicycle Club. — The monthly meeting took place last evening. There was a full attendance, Mr C. Myhre in the chair. It was decided to make extensive alterations to the present Club-rooms, Buch as will materially increase the comfort of the members. A euggefltion as to a monster run was received with favour, and the Committee wore recommended to try and induce the majority of Christchurch riders to attend on some date during December. After transacting routine businesß the meeting cloßed.

Miking in the Malvern Hills.— .Our Whitecliffa correspondent writes : — Mining has taken a strong bold of the inhabitants of the Malvern district. A company has been formed here for the purpose of ascertaining if there are any diamonds amongst the valuable minerals of this district. Another party of prospectors aro to be found located in the Selwyn Gorge. They are headed by Mr E. Ford, wtll known among the mining community of Canterbury. It 18 to be hoped that these energetic people may find something that wiJl abundantly repay them.

Art Society.— The attractive pro" gramme given last night at the pictur gallery drew a crowded audience. Th vocal items were given by Mrs Garrard Miss Eeeve, Miss Wardrop, Mrs Edgar and Mr H. Weir, and a violin obligato b Miss J. Reeve. To-night the Misse Taylor, Mrs Lane and Miss Moorhouse will take part iv the coucerfc, and Mr G. P. VVilliams has undertaken to give some of his much-appreciated recitations. Rangiora School Committee. — The monthly meeting was held on "Wednesday evening. All the members were present except Mr Jennings, who seat an apology. The master's report was read, which showed a steady increase in attendance, the roll number beintr now 393, and the last week's attendance 35(5. It whs decided to write to the Board with reference to an additional mistress, to which the school iB I now entitled. It was decided to hold the annual concert in aid of tho prize fund on Thursday, Dec. 18, and break up tho following day, the prizes to be distributed before breaking up, and to be of tho value of .£lB. The Chairman wr.s instructed to see the Clerk of Wcrks of the Board with reference to the proposed alterations, as they do not seem suitablo to the Committee. Two circulars from the Board were read with reference to the resignation of teachers and a list of the books to be used. Messrs King and Luxton were appointed the Visiting Committee for the next month. The meeting then terminated.
