The Latest Strike. — The Wellington Times says :— The very latest thing in strikes took place at the military sports. Certain gentlemen who blow into brazen instruments, thereby producing a combination of sounds more or less Bweet for the edification of the world in general — to wit, the Garrison Band — had a grievance. They wanted to know at what sum of money the Committee was likely to value their services, and as no definite information on that very interesting question was available, they struck. They intimated that unleSß they were given a guarantee they would fold up their instruments and steal away after the manner of the Arabs. The Secretary, having" heard the band speak, declined to give a guarantee, and advised the men to go, on playing and leave themselves in the hands of the Committee. The bandsmen accepted that advice, and continued to play during the afternoon, thus averting a calamity which would have cast a gloom over the whole proceedings.
