The Kaiapoi Seat.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — I am utterly astonished at the audacity of Mr Verrall's statement last night that Messrs Perceval and Reeves were lawyers, and had put up another lawyer, Mr Hoban, for Kaiapoi. When a man speaks from a public platform he should be careful to speak the truth. Mr Verrall ought to know as well as I do, that Mr Reeves, though a lawyer, has not practised for years, and has no intention of doing so ; secondly, Mr Hoban is not the nominee or ■protegi of the two gentlemen named. Mr Hoban stands on his own merits as a Unionist and a Liberal, and has been drawn into the political arena through his connection with the Railway Servants' Union. Lawyer though he is, I wish him all success, for he does know his own mind, aud that does not appear to be the case with Mr "Verrall on the education question. In fact Mr Verrall is only a. State Bank specialist, and he has played upon one string, in season and out of season, until he has reduced his theme to the monotony of a stale farce. I am a firm believer in a State currency, but Heaven preserve it, and me, from an injudicious advocate like Mr Verrall. — I am, &c., A TRUE LIBERAL.
