Annual Parish Meetings.
ST MATTHEW'S, ST ALBANS. The annual meeting of the parishioners of St Matthew's, St Albans, was held last evening, the incumbent, the Eev H. T. Purchas, presiding, There was a moderate attendance. The churchwardens' report stated that there bad been a serious falling off in the receipts, which was partly due to some parishioners having failed to mate up the amounts they had promised. On the other hand, the expenditure had been considerably less, and the strictest economy had been practised in order to make both ends meet. The painting of tbe church and payment of the loan oa the parsonage were matters requiring immediate attention. The balance-sheet showed that in the general account the receipts had been £3la Is 9d ; expenditure .£3lB 6s 4d. On behalf of the Sunday school .£ls Is 4d had been received, and JBI3 7s lid had been expended ; £2 18s 6d had been received towards erecting a parochial room. The report and balance-sheet were adopted on the motion of Mr E. Strange. The following gentlemen were elected office - bearers : — Clergyman's Churchwarden, Mr George Dickinson ; Vestrymen, Messrs Parbery, Bevan-Brown, Owen, Gordon, Innes, E. Strange, Speight, Eichardson, Neate and Carter. Ib was resolved, on the motion of Mr Bevan-Brown, seconded by Mr T. Gordon — " That this meeting views with the warmest approval the proposal for the erection of a new parochial room." The incumbent said that half the sum required for this work was either in hand or guaranteed. The usual votes of thanks having been accorded to the Church workers, the meeting closed with a similar compliment to the Chairman. ST JOHN'S, EANGIOEA. The annual meeting of the parishioners of the Church of St John the Baptist, E&ngiora, was convened for yesterday. At the time of meeting about ten were in attendance. The Eev W. E. Gillam being laid up with influenza, Mr W. Meech, Churchwarden, took the chair. After the Eev P. Pritchett had opened with prayer, the minutes of the previous annual meeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman then suggested tbe advisability of adjourning the meeting until the Incumbent was fit to be present and give his report. He (Mr Meech) mentioned that the finances were satisfactory, the general and cemetery accounts showing credit balances, and the school fund about £10 better than last year. Mr A. Templer moved— "That this meeting adjourn until Wednesday week, or any other date more convenient for the Incumbent." Mr E. E. Good seconded the motion, and it was agreed to. The meeting was then closed with - prayer.
