EXHIBITION MEETING.
[fbom oxjb otvts correspondent, j DUNEDIN, Nov. 19. A rumour having been circulated to the effect that Occident, the favourite for the Exhibition Cap had broken down, we communicated with our Dunedin correspondent and received the following reply:— The truth about Occident is this : He bruised his off hind foot while racing in Christchurch, but the injury was not discovered until his return to Dunedin, when Waddell found the horse decidedly tender. An examination revealed a bruise on the extreme tip of the sole of the off hind foot. The blacksmith was sent for, who pared the hoof, and matter instantly discharged. Hot water fomentations completed a cure. The horse was only stopped in his work one day, and aB a proof that he is all right he did a good gallop this morning. Notwithstanding a hole in the sole large enough to put the tip of the finger in, you may regard Occident as a certain starter for the Cup. I have personally examined him by kind permission of Stuart Waddell, and am satisfied he will run well. Occident and St James are the only local horsea that will pay up for the Exhibition Cup.
