Mr Herrick reports for October as follows: — "From Oct. 4 to Nov. 4 there have been given away at the Home 1374 meals, averaging over 44 per day; 557 beds have been made up, averaging- 18 each night; work obtained for 24 men, and several poor women, three having been sont to situations in the country. There have been given away 70 large loaves, 3 sacks potatoes, and in several urgent cases groceries to the value of 2s 6d each ; 3 pairs children's new boots, 5 pairs blankets, eggs, fish, medicine and other necessaries distributed among the sick, meat, butter, vegetables, also a large quantity of milk daily, clothing and boots to men, women and children. We are in great need of cast off clothes just now, especially children's boots. Tho poor women's services have been conducted by the Revs Lewis, O'Eryen Hoare and Dewdney, the average number present, including lady helpers, being 55. During the month 10 cottage meetinga have been conducted, and a numb£r of sick porsons visited. The services on Sunday have been conducted as usual. Several men have been replenished with swags and railway fares paid to places of work. "We hope this coming Christmas to make a small present of meat, &c, to the poorest families in and about Ohristchurch."
