THE S.S. BOTHWELL CASTLE.

The following particulars of the voyage of the s.s. Bothwell Caotlo are extracted from a private letter received by a friend from Captain R. J. C. Tod, from which it will be, seen that tho vessel experienced some rough weather : — " After leaving Wellington we had a very rough time of it. Off Cape Egmont we got into a Northeast gale, nnd lay to for ten hours. Then again we were unfortunate to meet with a, cyclonic gale, the wind backing from North-east by the Eastward right round to the North-weßt. We had just to run before the wind, and finally fetched up at Norfolk Island, and in the smooth water to leeward of the island hove to until the gale blew ovor, being a good day's steaming out of our course. The poor horses had a rough time of it, also the attendants, who, however, stuck to their work like bricks. We entered Torres Straits on Sept. 15, just in time for a heavy South-eaßt gale, accompanied by blinding rain, and we had to anchor for sixteen hours until the gale passed over. Passed Thursday Island on Sept. 16 at noon, aud arrived at Calcutta on Oct. 3. We lost nineteen horseß ou the voyage, and two in the river, making a total of twentyone. Considering the very bad weather experienced, I think wo were lucky to lose bo few. Mr Collins, who waa in chargo of Mr Grigg's horses, got bowled over with a severe sunstroke. To-day (Oct. 7) ho is much be.iw."
