EARTHQUAKE. NEW PLYMOUTH, Oct. 26. <r. G. Victor Bate, an ex-Mayor of Hawers, late J.P. and Clerk of the Hawera County Council, who was last night found guilty of embezzlement, was sentenced this morning to one year and eight months' imprisonment with hard labour.
