Christchurch Horticultural Society.
A meeting of the Christchurch Horticultural Sociotywaa-beld in the A. and P. Association's rooms last night. There wag a fair attendance of members, and Mr S. Anstey occupied tbe ohair. The Secretary read the following list of donors of special prizes te be awarded at the Society's forthcoming- *how_"v. — Lady Hall, Mesdames RhodeßyCarriek, H. O. ID. Meares, F. A hearty vote -of thanks was passed to tbe donors of special prized Messrs Severn and Donald were appointed Judges, with Mr Guntrip as Staging Steward. Society as eubsc-ribing members. Mr K. Cant exhibited a vine of the, Madame-C. Audigeur chryaanthemam. ALPI~B "PT.ANTS. MrM. Murphy, Secretary of the Canterbury Agriculturaland Pastoral Association, read a most interesting paper on " Alpine and Rock Plants." in* the course of which the wealth of the Hew Zealand Mua and ranges . in these plants was painted out, and their cultivation by florists urged. The essay let went' into details for the growing of Alpine and rock plants in garden rockeries', giving imrtructionsas to situation, aspect, boB, drainage, Seo. He hoped thf-fi booh-, fihanki-t to tb.©. coci chambers of the New Zealand oceanBteamera, many ofthe Alpineplants
of Great Britain and the Continent of Europe would be introduced to this Colony, and add with the AlpiDe plants of our owu Colony to the pleasure florists may derive from their cultivation. A short discussion took place on the paper, after whioh a hearty vote of thanks was* passed to Mr Murphy. This was all the bueiness.
