The Waimakariri.
CONFERENCE OP LOCAL BODIES. The adjourned meeting of delegates fron, local bodies interested in the Waimakarixi flood question was held last night at thi Borough Offices, Kaiapoi; present— Messn Moore (in the chair) and Smethurel (Waimakariri Harbour Board), H&nßexi and Kidd (Kaiapoi Borough Council), and Evans and Denton (Eyreton Boad Board). "The> Chairman., detailed the origin anc objects of the Conference. After discussion, Mr Smethurst moved, Mr Hansen seconded, and it was carried — " That this Conference recognises the necessity for co-operative action to further the formation of a Board of Conservators, and to bring into operation the Eiver Boards Act ; and that those present form a Committee, with power to add to their number," Mr Kidd deprecated any delay. The Chairman thought that control of the river by one body would ensure more uniform and substantial work. On the motion oi Mr Hansen, seconded by Mr Smeth.urst, it was resolved--" That the Mandr/ville and Eangiora Koad and Kiver Boards be invited to co-operate." The first Committee meeting was fixed .for Monday next, at same time and place, 1.- and the- meeting adjourned.
