Mr Raikes persists in his refusal to alter the day of departure of the mail steamer for Adelaide, although the inconvenience to Victoria and South Australia has been repeatedly pressed upon him. August S. Tallow— Mutton, 255 ; beef, 28s 6d. Tin, .£B9 15s. Copper, Chili bars, .£B2. Iron, best Scotch, pig, No. 1 brand, is dull at 445. The sugar market is depressed. German beet is 14s ; Java, 15s 6d. "Wheat.— English samples show a strong tone, and the price is unchanged. Australian, on tho spot, 375 ; Now Zealand, long berried, 36s 9d. The money market is advancing steadily, owing to an expected early advance in the Bank rate. Consols stand at .£IOO ss; New Zealand 5 per cents, <£104 10s ; New Zealand 4 per cent inscribed stock is i at £98 15s. j CONSTANTINOPLE, August 6. Owing to the failure of the Montenegrin harvest, forty thousand persons have been rendered destitute, and entirely dependent on charity.
