The return football match between tho English team and a local Fifteen tvaa played this afternoon, the Englishman winning by sixteen points to two. [Per Press Association. l WELLINGTON, August 5. In the Champion matches yesterday the j Athletics beat the Unions by ten points. ! The Unions played fairly well in the first j spell, but went to pieces in the second, j and their opponents simply romped over ! them. In tfce match Melro'se v. Rivals the j former were made very hot favourite?, and • in this match all the interest was centred. The Rivals scored early in the first spell, and that was the only score in the match. Melrose had much the beat of the second epell, but owing to the splendid defensive pl»y of the youEg Club chey were unable to score, and the game ended in favour of the Eivals by one point to nil. TJelrose played an exceedingly rough game, and once or twice during the game one of their playera struck opponents in the face. The Junior Cup matches resulted »s follows : — Sb Patrick's College First and Athletics Second played a draw ; no score. Union Second v. Rivals Second. — Won bj Unions by eight points to nil. Epuni First beat Wellington Second by one point to nil. Poneke Second bc-ac Wellington College by three points to nil. Senior. Canterbury Colljcge v. Dunedin University. — This match, the first spell of which was reported in our latest edition oa Saturday, ended in a draw, each side obtaining a goal. Sydznham v. CnrasTCHUF.CH. — Sydenhain won by nine to three. Several, o£ tho other team absent, and substitutes played, the Chrietchurch men after all being one short. Mebivale v. Eagt Chbistchuhch. — Merivale won by three goals and three tries to nil. The Easterns played two men short. Junior Cup. Addington v. Christchurch. — Addington ivon by two tries to nil. _ Stdenham v. LimvooD. — A draw ; each side secured a try. Miscellaneous. Christchdrch Fourth v. Addington Second. — Addington won by six points to nil. Eangiora v.Kaiapoi Borough School. — Eangiora won by eight point 3 to two. Avonside Second v. Eastern Second. — Avonside won by one point to nil. Christchurch v. Arhburton High School. — Askburfcon won by four points to three. Ltttelton Juniors v. Stdenhasi Fourth.— Sydenhani won by five points to four. S YDKNHAM SCHOOL V. StTDENHAM PIRATES. — Pirates won by one point to nil. Oxford v. Shamrock Second.— Oxford won by six points to nil.
