Distbict Court. — A Bitting of the District Court was held at Asliburton, on Friday, by Judge Broad. In Bankruptcy, William Annett (Mr Crisp), G. J. Leech (Mr Crisp), and T. G. Marriott (Mr Purnell) were granted orders of discharge, and the Official Assignee received release in a number of estates. Buried in a Shingle Pit. —On Friday last an accident happened in a shingle pit at Sheffield to a young man named John Montgomery. A fall from the top occurred, and buried the young fellow completely, except a small part of the face. "When extricated the man was found to be much hurt about the legs, and was conveyed home in a dray. Swannanoa. — At a meeting of this School Committee, on Friday last, the resignation of the master was accepted, and the following motions passed : — "That a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to Mr Dalby for his able services during his mastership here; tbat we hope he will receive more remuneration in his new sphere than has been possible for us to give him; and that he be granted a holiday during the last week of his stay. Accident at Eangioea. — On Saturday afternoon Mrs and Miss Chapman we-i-a driving in High, street, and when near the railway crossing their horae bolted without any apparent cause. On reaching King street, where the ladies reside, the horse attempted to turn for home, but Miss Chapman, fearing the consequences, tried to keep the animal on the straight road. A swerve was thus occasioned, which brought the carriage against the corner post, overturning it, and throwing the ladies out. Mrs Chapman escaped with bruises and a severe shaking, bub Miss Chapman was unfortunate enough to break her left collarbone, besides being much bruised. The ladie3 were assisted into a neighbouring house, and afterwards conveyed home, Dr Clayton being in attendance. The horse fell when the vehicle overturned, but fortunately remained perfectly quiet, and escaped without injury. The carriage had one shaft broken, and sustained other not very serious damage.
