* Pbobatb. — In Chambers this morning Us Honor Mr Justice Ward granted probate in the estate of William Stewart Shierlaw, deceased, to Margaret Shierlaw, Ottthe application of Mr Thomas. Letters of administration in the estate of Robert Kennedy, deceased, were granted to Mary Kennedy, on the application of Mr Gresaon. The Son Colonel Brett, M.L.C., was also a passenger by the Wakatipu, from Wellington. WINDOW-BREAKING AT WOODEND. — The Rev C. H. Qoasett, curate in charge of the Woodend English Church, having complained to the police that damage had been done to the church windows by stone-throwing, a member of the detective force has recently been investigating the matter. He discovered enough to cause him to suspect that the damage was done maliciously, and not in that overflow of animal spirits which causes much larrikiniam. He is therefore on the alert, and future events are awaited in Woodend with interest;. Alarm of Fire at Lyttslton. — This forenoon the electric bell fixed at the Police Station in Lyttelton, and which is connected by wire to a house in Dampier's Bay, to be used as a fire alarm, was rung in a vigorous manner. The Police looked in the direction indicated, but failing to discover any si^ns of smoke deemed it prudent not to turn out the Brigade.
