S» The fortnightly meeting was held last ujght. There were present His Wcidnp the Mayor (in the chair), and Corracilloiv; Milsom, Bain, Holland, M'Lellsn, Eiluyaid and Ditnond. CORRESPONDENCE. The following was received : — From Messrs Scott Bros., asking for a payment of .£4OO in connection -with the new waterworks. It was decided to pass the amount. From Mr J. Joyce, M.H.E., enclosing Charitable Aid Act and other documents which have just been printed and circulated among members. From Lieutenant-Colonel Lean, asking permission to use the firehell a? a means of calling out the Volunteers. The writer explained that the bell would only be used on rare occasions, and would be rung continually, so as to distinguish the alarm from a tire alarm. After some discussion, it was, on the motion of Councillors Hildyard and Bain, referred to the Fire Prevention Committee, with power to act. From J. Gleeson, asking the Council to releasehim in the lease of the old Chambers, as the place was unfit to live in. It was decided by four votes to three — "That the Council do not grant the application." The report of the Foreman of Works was read, detailing the works on which the men were engaged during the past fortnight. The contractors had been retarded with their work at the reservoir owing to bad weather. The report of the Engineer at the pumping station was read and adopted. I The report of the Reserves Inspection Committee stated that the present lease should not be interfered with, but that a refund of 25 per cent be granted for the next six years. On the motion of Councillor Milsom, seconded by Councillor Stinson, the report was adopted. The Committee appointed to report upon the purchase of the Gasworks presented their report, which suggested that the offer be not entertained on the terms I stated by the Gas Company. The report was adopted. The report of the Y/orks Committee stated that several odd jobs required to be done in various parts of the toira. The report was adopted. RECREATION GROUND. The Committee appointed to report upon making the ground close to the Graving Dock into a recreation ground stated that about .£IOO would be required. Councillor Milsom moved the adoption of the report. Seconded by Councillor Hildyard, and carried. It was decided to call for tenders for the work. After disposing of other unimportant business, the Council adjourned at 9 pan.
