Canterbury Rugby Union.

There was a moderate attendance of delegates at a meeting of the Union held at Warner's Hotel yesterday evening, he Eev J. Hoatson in the chair. A letter and telegram were read from Mr Warbrick, on the subject of the charge of professionalism, stating that it had no foundation. Explanations were received from Messrs Richards and Allardyce, the former stating that an unexpected leave of absence accounted for his presence on the ground during the match with the Englishmen. The Hon Secretary eaid that he had seen Allardyce on the subject previous to the second match, and had told him that he waa chosen in place of Webb, who was unable to play; that Allardyce had told him he would not play because he was not chosen in the first match, and further that he could not get away from business. The explanations were received, but on Mr Wilding's motion, it was decided — " That it is desirable to frame a rule to deal with cases of refusal to play without reasonable excuse." A discussion ensued on the subject of allowing a man who had once played in the iirst cup teams to be reinstated as a junior on a player being put up over his head. Mr Wilding moved, and Mr Smith seconded — "That, in the opinion of the meeting, Mr Dallas be allowed to play in the Second Fifteen of the Merivale Club, on assurance being given that he would not be chosen in the First Fifteen.
