A Colonist in England. — Among notable men now among us, says an English paper, may be cited Mr E. C. J. Stevens, who is now Home here from New Zealand with his family, on. well-earned recreation bent. Mr Stevens is a member of the Upper House, and is a good solid legislator. He is specially pre-eminent aa a sound financial authority. Apart from, this, Mr Stevens is a first-class cricketer, and will be heartily welcomed here by all lovers of the national sport. He comes, as my readers are aware, from Christchurch, and it was there, if I am not mistaken, that the Australian Eleven, were signaUy defeated, - " '"'"•- "" ' yr '
