Leeston School Committee.

A meeting of this Committee was held on I Monday evening; present— Mr Lunn (Chairman), and Messrs Cook, Johnston, Marshall, Scott, Lewis, and Barnett. The Chairman reported thatsince the last meeting he had had the fences at both the schools thoroughly well trimmed and all the gorse stubbed ; that he had several loads of shingle spread over the grounds, and had attended to one or two minor repairs that were wanted. A letter was read from Mr Mackay, stating that the average attendance at the main school for June had been IST^o, and at the side school 56 ; also that, in consequence of severe illness he had been absent from the school for three weeks, but that Mr Malcolm had very kindly occupied his place. Miss Durant tendered her resigna* tion as a pupil-teacher as from August 1. The resignation was accepted, and it was unanimously decided to grant her a letter of recommendation for any situation that may be open. On the motion of Mr Cook it waß decided to apply to the Board for an assistant master in the place of the two pupil teachers leaving. Mrs Wright's tender for cleaning the side school was accepted on the usual conditions. On the motion of Mr Johnston it was unanimously decided to forward a letter of thanks to Mr Malcolm for his kindness in supplying Mr Mackay's place in the school during the hitter's illness. After transacting other business of a routine nature the meeting adjourned.
