SCOTT v. COTTON

Scott's Challenge Accepted.

The following letter, addressed to the editor, appears in the current number of the Otago Witness :—" Sir, — Kindly allow me, through the medium of your columns, to accept the repeated challenges o£ Scotfc to -walk against him for twenty-four hours in tha Grarrison Hall, at Dunedin, on Monday and Tuesday, August 15 and 16. Allow me also to say that when I first met him I had not the slightest intention of ever walking again. Circumstances, however, alter cases. But, once for all, I distinctly assert that, whether I win or lose, I will not be induced to walk again. The conditions of this match are as follows, viz. : That he gives me 10 miles start, and that the winner takes every farthing thab may be taken at the gate. If I win, I shall not appropriate any of the gate money, but shall, after deducting expenses, give it to come institution that I consider deserving ; if I lose, I shall not take anything for expenses. — I am, &c, Frederick Cotton-."
