The re3uit of the poll was aot announced till more than an hour after the closing, when the following were declared to be the numbers : — James Forrester 360 William Langdown 335 John Alexander Rankin ... 330 Edward Jones 327 Joseph Sherlock 323 William James Rudd ... 270 Thomas Cutler 2G5 Thomas Edward Taylor ... 257 Jame3 Eagle 25G William Walter Spencer ... 248 It will be seen that the old Committee have thus been re-elected, and the party that supported the closing of all public houses within the Borough at 10 o'clock has been defeated. The numbers polled, it may be remarked, exceed those which have been recorded at any of the City districts. The new Committee will hold their first meeting at the Borough Council Chamber on Tuesday, March 9, at 11.45 a.m., for the purpose of electing a Chairman.
