Volunteer Rifle Association.
« A meeting was held last evening, at the Garrison Library, Colonel Lean in the chair, in order to draft rules to be placed before the general meeting of Volunteers, which is convened for to-morrow evening, in the Dnllshed, at eight o'clock. Letters were received from Colonel the Hon de Renzie Brett, Major Tosswill, Captains Martin, O'Brien, and George Harper. The draft rules were agreed upon, and we understand the rate of subscription for efficient Volunteers has been suggested at the moderate sum of half-a-crown per annum. Tho aim of the Association is to foster rifle shooting among the ranks of Volunteers, and we wish the promoters every success in so laudable and praiseworthy an enterprise. The following will represent South Canterbury at the forthcoming N.Z. Rifle Association meeting at Wanganui : — Lieutenant Findlay (Temuka Rifles), Lieutenant Fergusson and Privates Rowley and Henderson (Timara Rifles), Quartermaster-Ser-geant James King (C Battery of Artillery). They leave Tiniu.ru for the Wanganui meeting to-day.
