The New Hebrides Question.
Parcels Post. Commercial. [Reuter's Telegrams.] LONDON, Feb. 23. The British Foreign Office has addreßsed a reminder to tho French "Government, calling attention to the agreement in forco between the two countries in regard to maintaining the neutral position of the New Hebrides group, the existence of which agreement France fully admits. Lord Granville bus reussured the Colonial Agents-General on tbo subject, and requested them to refer the question to the various Colonial Governments, as he says he cau take no action without consulting them. Mr Fowler has submitted definite Sroposals from the Australasian olonies with regard to the establishment of a parcels post. SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 22. The E.M.S. Mariposa, with New Zealand homeward mails dated Auckland, Feb. 2, arrived here to-day. LONDON, Feb. 23. Consols are unchanged. J2lOl ss. New Zealand securities— s per cent and 4| per cent loans remain at previous quotations ; 4 per cent inscribed stock has advanced ss, and is now quoted at .£lO2 15s. Colonial breadstuffs — Adelaide wheat ex store, 36s ; New Zealand ditto, 25s to 345, according to grade ; Adelaide flour, 24s 6d. Australian tallow— Beef, fair average quality, 25s 6d per cwt ; mutton, 265. (Special to I'bkss Association.] LONDON, Feb. 24. It is expected that Mr E,. C. Baker, of Adelaide, will receive the honour of C.M.G., and the Hon J. M'Boin, of South Tarra, and tho Hon Edmund Barton, Speaker of the New South Wales Assembly, that of K.C.M.G. The statement that Great Britain intends parleying with Germany for the cession of some territory in New -Guinea, is not yet confirmed. Prince Napoleon has issued a manifesto protesting against the expulsion of the Princes from France. [Reuter's Telegrams.] ALBANY. Feb. 24. The R.M.S. Eome arrived in King George's Sound this morning with the English mails of Jan. 22. MELBOURNE, Feb. 24. The inquiry into tho striking of the Waihora near Eddystone Point, and the subsequent beaching of the vessel at Swan Island, stands adjourned until Friday next. [Per Press Association.]
