The A.O.S. Sanctuary Star of Canterbury held its monthly meeting on Monday, Bro W. H. Howard in the chair. The Scribe presented the valuation returns, which the Actuary considered showed good results. One new member was initiated. It was resolved to hold the annual enterment as usual, the date to be fixed at next meeting. After the ordinary routine business the Sanctuary closed in due form. A summoned meeting of the City of Christchurch Lodge, 1.0.0.P., M.U., was held on Monday evening, for the purpose of receiving the Auditors' report and balanoe-sheet for 1885. There was a large attendance of members, and the report having been adopted was ordered to be printed. A reference to it shows that financially the Lodge has made considerable progress during the year, the profit on the sick and funeral fund being .£569, while the management fund, after advancing a sum of .£3O to the Juvenile Lodge for band purposes, stands about evenly balanced. The number of members good on the books has decreased by three, several clearances having been granted during the year. The average amount per member paid in sick benefit is 15a, against 17s 4d in 1884, and the funds of the Lodge now average per member J625 5s lOd, the total value of property and funds being .£BB2B. Against this, the average age of members has increased thirty weeks. After the adoption of report, the N.G. presented framed certificates of merit to Bro E. Cliffe for services rendered as Noble Grand, and t» Bro P Chick, V.G., for his services as Elective Secretary. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Perseverance Lodge, U.A.0.D., Addington, was heldon Monday evening, when a fairnumber of members and a visiting brother were present, A.D. Bro J. W. Harrap presiding. The Lodge having been opened in due form, the Secretary, Bro Butterworth, read the correspondence, including two apologies from officers who were unable to attend. After confirming the minutes of the previous meeting, receiviug the Bards' reports as to the sick brethren, and Bundry other business, the D.P., Bro Penfold, proceeded, in a few well-chosen remarks, to instal Bro P. B. Petrie (Treasurer of the Lodge) as District President of No. 20 District for the ensuing term. Bro Petrie replied, hoping that the members of the various Lodges in the district would give him the same support that had been accorded bis predecessors in the important office of D.P. It was then proposed, seconded, and unanimously resolved — " That a very hearty vote of thanks be passed to our worthy P.D.P., Bro Penfold, for his attendances and services to this Lodge during his term of office, and that the same bo recorded on the minutes," the proposer and seconder speaking in a very flattering manner as to the help he had afforded the Lodge and his regular attendance. The Lodge was then closed in the usual form by the presiding A.D.
