Fires.

+ About 4 a m. on Monday, a four-roomed cottage, situated in Church road, St Albans, owned by Claudius Beaumelberg, was burned down. The fire was first seen by a Miss Souter, who lives close by, and who noticed the glare through her window. She called a neighbour named Barnes, but tlio file had gob such a hold that nothing could bo done to save the building. The house had been unoccupied since the latter part of December, whon the last tenant, John William Stonyear, left it. Stonyear had, it is stated, agreed to purchase the house from Beauinelberg, but a dispute arising, he gave up possession. The honse was left securely locked up. It was mortgaged to a Building Society, and was insured for J6150 in the United Office. Nothing certain has yet been found out about the cause of the fire.
