The Cardinal in Wellington.

[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Feb. 23. Tho conversazione at the Drillshed to-night, in aid of the expenses of the Cardinal's visit, was extremely successful, 1200 to 1500 people being present. Cardinal Moran and the five bishops arrived first, the Governor and suite afterwards. They were received at tho door by the clerical dignitaries, and remained until 10. The surplus, if any, will be divided among the poor of the city. There were many objects, particularly pictures, of considerable value lent for exhibition.

I [from our own corbespondent.]

The Cardinal ought not readily to forget his visit to Wellington. Ho has been received here with a welcome such as has fallen to the lot of but few visitors. Wherever he goes amongst hia people he is cheered and addressed with a fervour inspired by unbounded admiration and respect. To-day he and the five bishops who are with him attended a garden party at Government House, and to-night he is attending a conversazione ' got up on a magnificent scale in honour of his visit to the city. The Governor is there, and a large number of the elite of Wellington are present. The Drillshed, where the conversazione is being held, is magnificently decorated, and is fitted up' as a drawing-room on the most elaborate scale. The insurances on the goods exhibited amount to upwards of £10,000.
