SCULLING CHAMPIONSHIP.

HOSPITAL INSPECTION. WELLINGTON, Dec. 8. Mr William Spinks, a very old resident here, died rather suddenly this afternoon, at the age of 82. Hearn, the sculler, left for Biverton this afternoon, where he rows a match for the championship. There is but little betting here on the event. It is rumoured here that Messrs Thomas Bracken and P. Galvin are about to Btart a weekly paper in Wellington, something after the style of the Saturday Advertiser. Mr Galvin possesses the necessary plant, and operations are to be commenced in about six weeks' time. In the meantime, Mr Bracken will make a lecturing tour through Otago, returning here a month hence. The Colonial Secretary and Mr G. S. Cooper, TJnder-Secretary, will leave Wellington on their tour of inspection of the Hospitals, &c, next week. The South Island is to be visited first. The first candidate (Mr G. S. Graham) for the Government Insurance Board was nominated to-day. Wellington will be represented at the Fire Brigade competition at Dunedin. The memorandum on Federation and South Sea Islands, by Sir Julius Yogel, was not sent to the Agent-General, but was forwarded by his Excellency the Governor to the Secretary of State for the Colonies.
