Mining Riots.
Shipping. Hostilities Between China and Japan. [BiEtjter's Tei.egba.ms.] [Eeceivea Sept. 2, at 1.10 p.m.] ADELAIDE, Sept. 2. Arrived, last evening — Orient steamship Liguria, from Plymouth. Cardinal Moran, Archbishop elect of Sydney, is a passenger by her.
MELBOURNE, Sept. 2. The spread of small-pox appears to be lessening in this city, only two fresh cases having occurred during the past fortnight.
NEW TOEK, Sept. 1. Serious mining riots have occurred in Hacking Valley, in Ohio. Troops have been despatched to the scene to quell the disturbance.
LONDON, Sept. 1. Arrived — At Plymouth, s.s. British Queen, from Lyttelton July 17. HONGKONG, Sept. 1. The report regarding the declaration, of war by China, telegraphed yesterday, refers to Japan, and not France, a dispute having arisen between the Chinese and Japanese Governments regarding the Loochoo Islands, the sovereignty of which is claimed from China by Japan. It is generally believed that hostilities between those couutries are imminent.
