FROM THE OTAGO DAILY TIMES.
DUNEDIN, August 30. The Times of this morning says : — " It is to be hoped that the farce will not be continued too long. We are not much concerned as to who gets the better of the coalition bargain ; but it is a great satisfaction that this second attempt to form a Ministry on a narrow sectional basis is likely to fail, and wiser counsels to prevail. If we get a strong and stable Atkinson-Vogel-Stout Government, the last three weeks will not have been ill spent. There has been too much disposition to be uncompromising and unreasonable on every side. In view of the change brought about in Victoria under a coalition Government, we are full of hope that a similar effect Biay follow a similar course here. One more satisfactory feature in such a coalition will be the reduction of Sir George Grey to a constitutional position, for the trodden worm turns at last. The sinking of the personal element between the Atkinson- Vogel-Stout parties will probably be in a large measure due to a feeling that Sir George Grey's supremacy has become intolerable. He has weighed down the balance until he has ended by overturning it."
