The news that Ohuta is calling for volunteers to the number of 220,000, and that the Jfarqutß Tseng has stated unofficially that, an assault by the Frenoh on Baoninh would be .considered a oatwlelli, taken in conjunction with the attacks of the German Press, seem ■to point to German influence in China as having something to do with the ■ attitude of ■the Chinese. If it shonld prove that Germany ihas stimulated the war feeling, in China, she will have inflicted a deadly injury on European civilisation for the sake of promoting ker own selfish ends.
