[fIMOIAIi TO THH " STAB."J ATTACKING THH BANKS. CONSOLIDATION. WELLINGTON, July 18. Mr Bathgate, the member for Boslyn, and formerly manager of the Bank of Otago, has tabled a long notice of motion in connection with the management of New Zealand Banks. The notice commences as follows : — " That the present commercial depression whioh prevails in the Colony is a matter of grave concern as regards publio interest, ana demands the early consideration of the Houee. That it has arisen in part from undue pressure caused by a large proportion of the deposits being used and invested outside the Colony. That the whole subject be romitted to a Committee." Tho Statutes Revision Commissioners have consolidated, without amendment, four Acts and two separate enactments relating to tbe preparation of Crown grants. The Commissioners say that although Orown grants may be deemed to be in a great measure superseded, in so far as respects grants of land affected by the Land Transfer Acts, yet tbe Acts relating to grants are still operative. The Bill has passed the Legislative Council, and is now transmitted to the House for its oonourrence. The same remark applies to the Trustee Bill, which absorbs five aots. With regard to the subjeots dealt with in this Bill the gentlemen charged with the duty of revision, give the following opinion : "It may perhaps be considered that they might be made more comformable to the exigencies of modern Bocioty, and power given to the Supreme Court to make, in any matter that comes before it, a decree or order which would have the effect of vesting real or personal estate, whether the parties were or were not under personal disabilities." As the powers givon tbem under the Act of 1879 did not bring suoh ohangeß within the scope of their duties, the Aots are reproduced with only such minor ohanges as aro neceesary to adapt them to tha Colony. Besides thie, almoßt every olause has been made the subjeot of judicial interpretation in England, suoh being acoepted as authorities in New Zealand. Ihereisanadvano3 in adhering as closely as possible to the I language of the present statute.
