POPULAR SPORTS ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of tho Popular Sports Committeo was held yesterday afternoon • present — His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Messrs H. E. Alport, J. W. Drewett, G. Tumor, 8. Olarkson, T. Drewott, 0. Walkden, J. Gapes, W. R. Mitchell, T. Crooks, Frank Hobbs, W. B. Samuels, D. Reeee, H. Atkinson, B. P. Andrews, and F. T. Hwkins, Hon Sec. The Secretary read a lettor from the Bailway Department, stating that single fare tickets from and to all stations in Canterbury would bo issued on Deo. 14, 15, and 16, and would be available till Deo. 19. A letter from Mr T. Pearell was read, resigning his position on the Committee, as he intended to compete in the sports. The resignation wbb acoeptod. He seconded the resolution, Mr S. P. Andrews believed the resolution, if carriod, would prevent any entries being made in the bicycle races. Mr Samuols supported the resolution. The bioyole races should be encouraged as muoh as possible. Mr Mitchell would be sorry that anything should prevent entries. Mr Walkden suggested that ono race should be open and another for clubs only. Mr Rooce wished to avoid any class die* tinctions. Mr Drewett thought no harm oould follow from making the races open. The resolution waß put and oarried unanimously. The meeting then made arrangements for takiug the gates. Messrs Crooks, Turner, and Drewett were appointed a Committee to purchase toys, &0., for the children. After attending to a number of minor matters of detail, the Committeo adjourned.
