SIMONSEN'S OPERA COMPANY.

"the hebhit's bell." Last night at the Theatre Boyal Simonsen's Boyal English and Comio Opera Oompany opened their season with Maillart's opera, " Ihe Hermit's Bell," before a fairly numerous audience downstairs, but an unaccountably small attendance in the dress circle. Possibly the fact that the opera is one with whioh the publio were made pretty familiar in a former season prevented those who care for nothing but novelty from visiting the theatre. The management, however, have little reason to complain of the reception accorded to the company by those who did hear the opera last night, when the applause was frequent and enthusiastic. Tho stage arrangements and ecenory were good, and the orohestra, while not unusually large, was well balanced, and played well together, and with skilled precision. The chorus was numerous and well trained, and the members acquitted themselves most satisfactorily.
