GUY FAWKES DAY.
[Paddy Murphy in " Public Opinion.] General Bryco is reported to have addressed his army as follows :— " What's be that wishes more nim from the South, Me colkige ?— No, me stout collaige ; If we are marked to die, we are enuff To do onr counthry loss : an' if to live, • The fewei men tho greater share ay honour, Be Jove, I am not covetous for good, But if it be a sin to covet honour, I am the most oiSndin' sowl alive. This day is called the foist o' grato Gay Fox, The glorious ancesthor ay our own Sir William; He that outlives this day an' comes safe home, Will stand a-tiptoe whin this day is named. An' rouse him at the name o' grate Guy Fox ; He that shall live this day, an' see ould age, Will yearly on the vigil thrait his f rinds. An' say, ' To-morrow is Guy Fox's day j' Thin will he sthrip his sleeve an' show his scars, An' say — ' These wounds I hod on Gny Fox day/ An' he'll renumber, with advantages. What deeds he did that day ; thin shall our names Familiar in their mouths as household wordsJohnny the Gineral, Eolloston, an' Murphy, Koberts an' Tnke, Bntler an' Major Pitt - Be id their flowin' cups freshly renumbered ; Am' Guy Fox, Guy Fox niver shall go by, From this day to the indin' o* the world, But we in it shall be remimbered ; We few, we happy few, we bando' brothers— For he to-day that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so rile, This day shall gintle his condition, An' Southland's fierce Hoozura, an 1 other cores Shall think thimselves accursed they vror not hare. An' heuld their manhoods' chaip, while any spaiks That fought wid us upon Guy Fox's day."
