THE OTAGO FOOTBALL TEAM.

A correspondent in the Star gives the following account of the Btrong points of our football team :—

J. Allan : Has proved himself to be a strong and energetic forward. He will last out, and is particularly dangerous when near the enemy's goal line. W. Allan (threequarter back) : Young, very active, and a good runner ; can " pot" at goal with either foot. A placer of great promise. Gibb : A good man in the scrimmages ; he has not played much this season. Hammerton (halfback) : The most active man in the team ; very dodgy, and can run well. Apparently tireless, he is always a guarantee for a score for his side. Hewlings : Collars well. A fair kick, and as a back is all that can be desired if he did not hesitate so much. Jewett : A strong heavy working forward ; makas himself felt in a tight scrimmage, and is the heaviest man in the team. M'Kinnon : Follows tho leather faithfully ; plays unselfishly, gets his party on by hook or by crook. Knows all the wrinkles of the game, and has dono great service for Otago. Mil's : Another Otago veteran, a ueeful hard working forward ; not a few of the team should imitate his passing back, Milne : Plays well forward ; dribbles fairly, and is best seen in a loose scrimmage. Murray (three-quarter back) : The strongest player in the team. Can play anywhere, and would rather bowl two or three of his opponents ovor than allow himself to be collared. A magnificent place-kick when in form. Beid : Plays a dashing forward game. Uses his hands when required, and backs up well. Rose, Captain (half-bock) : A Bure kick, and is noted for " potting " at goal. Plays with great judgment and coolness. Taiaroa: A good forward, but plays back equally as well if not better. Makes a dashing run at times. Wheeler (back) : A magnificent kick, loses no time in returning tho ball, and can use either foot. Wyinks : The best dribbler in the team, generally emerges from a sorimmage with the ball before him. Flays football without talking.
