LYTTELTON HARBOUR BOARD.
-^ A special meeting of the Lyttelton Harbour Board was held at the Christshurch offices, Hereford street, this aflornoon at 2 o'clock ; present— Mr R. J. S. Human (Acting Chairman), Messrs K. Allan, 0. W. Tamer, H. Sawtell, H. P. Murray Aynsley, and P. Cunningham. The Chairman read the following statement ; — " Aciing under the authority given at last meeting, Mr Cunningham aid m\eolf, in company with the Secretary and Engineer, visited Lyttelton, and examined the sheds where grain is at preasnt stored. We subsequently met Mr Lowe, the Railway Engineer, and agreed upon a general plan to bo adopted for the shed, t!io one now beforo the Board. I propose, if approved, to forward a copy of the plants Wellington as soon as it. cm be got ready, and in the meanlime to call for tenders, to bo sent in on Thursday, September 15. The Chairman further stated that Mr Bell had estimated tho cost of thf proposed shed, which was of two storeys, at £15,000. Iho Board had not wished to exceed £5C30, and it became a question whether a building of one or two storeys should be erected. In answer to the Chan man, Mr NapierBell stated that, at a rough estimate, the cost of tho buildin?, if reduced t i ono storoy with walls 18ft higli, would be about £60C0. After considerabla discussion, Mr MurrayAynsley proposed and Mr Allan seconded — "That the Board approve of Mr liwe'i general plan of the shed, 520 ft in length, and directs the Board's Engineer to prepara detail plana and specifications accordingly ; and that tinders be called for tho tame forthwith ; and that in the meantime a copy of the plan be Bent to the Government for approval."
The resolution was carried unai'imeuilr.
