fiJx Tbiegbaph.J

A Body Pound.

AUCKLAND, August 23.

Mr Stanaiy has returned from the wreck of tho Rona. He went souta of the wreck, but found nothing. He then traversed from the wreck to the South Head, about ten milea, parallel to the Sh*)ly beach; he found the body of a youDg man, beight about sft 9in, with good teeth, light hair, no whiskers. All the flesh wa? off the body excepting the hands and feet (it was possibly washed off by the action of the tide) ; one pa ; r of white drawers, hanging to one leg 5 worsted socks with white tops, and half -soled elastic boots. The body had no other clothing on. Mr Stanrvy also found ono of tha ship's hatches lying twenty yards away, high up on the beach. Five miles further north he found one of the vessel's r.o ; v warps, and two miles north of that a keg of butter and a mug. There was no sign of a boat anywhere. It is ovident that the vessel capsized wtsea, and that the man whose body hai beon found tried to come ashore on a hatch, but was washed off in the suif, there being no other piece of wreckago within five milos of the body. Mr Slanary dug a hole in the sand above high water, and there buried tho body, with tho booming of the eurf for a burial service. He brought away ceilaio. portions of the hand, and intends forwarding them to Auckland frr identification. From the description of the body found, ifc is neither that of Captain Kenneth McKenzio or his mate,^ Bmith, They were both men about bix feet high, c.nd the former was dark compbxioned.
