The Adelaide local court upheld the decision of the police court case against a barmaid for using tho totalizator. In tho Assembly a BUI will be introduced to dis--courage betting on credit, and to legalise the totalisator.

to be colleoted by Btamps at the time of payment, and payable by the receiver of the money. It is also proposed to levy, a tax on inoome or profits from business, this tax to be collected in a novel way. Every peraon who»e income exceeds £300 shall, in January, forward to the Commissioner of Taxeß a abatement of his income, based on the average for threo years, accompanied by a cheque for the tax. Tho names of all who comply will be published in the Gazette, and persons who omifc to stnd a return will be prohibited from using tho Courts to enforce any claim. The tax is estimated to yield £800,000.
