[Bt Telegraph.] [SPECIAL.} Auckland, Sept. 2. It is reported thafc Mr Earl intends standing for the Bay of Islands. Mr J. M'Cosh Clark met the City East electors, and received a voto of thanks. It is understood that Sir George Grey, if elected for Christohurch, will vacate the Thames seat. Mr Sheehan is undecided whether he will contest Clivo against Mr Ormond. . The nominations for tho City West election aro— Dr Wallis, Mr Newman, Mr Stark, and Mr Hurst. Tho show of hands was as follows :— Hurst, fil ; Wallis, 59 ; Stark, 59 ; Newman, 10. The piling takes place on Saturday. At a meeting of electors at Hokianga it waa resolved to support Wi Kateno as the candidate for the Bay of Islands, and call upon Mr Williams to retire in his favour. Katene would carry the Maori voto. Napier, Sept. 2. For tho Eastern Maori district Tamoana is favourite hore, bufc Matua appears to bo largely supported up country, and his friends are sanguine. Afc the Theatre Royal lasfc night Messrs Buchanan and Maney avowed themselves supporters of Sir Georgo Grey. They received a very enthusiastic reception and a vote of confidence by a large majority. Mr Buchanan made a splendid defence of Sir George Grey's administration. At Petono this afternoon a voto of no confidence in Meesrs Russell and Sutton was carried by a majority of two to one. Mr Sheehan is expected hero at the end of tho week to contest Clive. Nelson, Sept. 2. Afc the nomination for the suburbs of Nelson the show of hands was— Richmond 11, Wastney 11, and Stafford 2. Oamaru, Sopt. 2. Messrs Hislop and Shrimski addressed a largo and enthusiastic meeting to-night in the Volunteer Hall. His Worship tho Mayor in the chair. Both candidates spoke briofly ; tho two addresses lasting only an hour and. a half. Mr Shrimski positively declared himself against tho introduction of the Bible into Schools, but on this point Mr Hislop was silent, having already declared his opinions on this question in other portions of tho district. Both positively promised to support not only tio measures introduced by Sir Georgo Grey, but to support Sir George* Grey as Premier, and refused fco believe the statement s of those who, while opposing tho Premier, professed to approve of his measures. At the conclusion of the addresses a number of questions woro asked and answered, after which a unanimous voto of confidence in both candidates was passed, and tho meeting closed with throo hearty chwirs for Sir George Grey. Dunedin, Sept. 2. Tlio election to-day excited more interest than any contest for years past, the friends of each candidate working hard. Messrs Dick and Oliver divided the Good Templar voto, and Mr Macasßey is said to havo received the Catholic vote. The result, whioh was declared shortly beforo 6 o'clock, was aB follows: — T. Dick, 1140 j R. Oliver, 1044; W. D. Stewart, 989; J. Macassey, 744; 0. S. Reeves, G76; T. Bracken, 477. Thore are 3800 names on tho roll. The Roturning Officer intimated nt the hustings to-day that 48 hours must yetelapso boforo ho could officially declare the poll for Invercargill. Tho papers, howevor, had been carofully gono ovor, and the following might bo accoptcil as tho correct return : — Bain (Conservative), 305 ; Feldwick (Liberal), 295. No fewer than 16 votes had beon rejectod as informal, nino of wliich were intended for Mr Fcldwick, and two had boon taken under protest.
