News just come in states that a party of surveyors who were engaged on a block of Government land between Tairu* and To Arpha, in the Thames district, have been attacked by Maoris. It is supposed that two have, been shot, Messrs Crump and Bayldon tj wo European surveyors, and another who ■was wounded, succeeded in crawling into Tairuaand gave information of the affair.
