Morton had followed Hall, and kept him in Bight until they reached a wood near a stream, where Hall dashed into some scrub and was lost to sight. Mr Morton was joined by one of the Constabulary, and they at once made a search, for the prisoner. After they had searched about the scrub for a short time without success, the constable went into the stream, and followed its course some little distance, when.he espied the head of the prisoner Hall a little above the water, the remainder of his body being submerged. The constable made a cautious approach, and succeeded in capturing Hall, who little expected to be pounced on in that manner. The whole affair did not occupy the space of an hour from the time the prisoners first escaped until Hall was brought back. From particulars learnt since the capture it i» ascertained that the prisoners' intentions were to have made for Parihaka, and sought protection from TeWhiti. Extra precaution has to be kept over the prisoners owing to conversation amongst the men that if they escape TeWhiti 'ould protect them the same as HirokL
L August X3. \bout seven this morning two prisoners nade their escape from the New Plymoutt raol in a T ery daring manner. The men that scaped were Hall, a prisoner transferred from Dunedin to New Plymouth, who was undergoing a sentence of tenvearaiana a Native prisoner named Hiriaki, who was recently convicted here for hor B e-stealing, and •sentenced to 12 months. The prisoner ?aU rushed past the gaoler, and bolted out of toa prison, qnicUy followed by nil oompjmjn.. jiiriaki. The gaoler at once gave pursuit, and whilst pursuing Hmaki, he c&UeoV to Mr Morton, who lives .in the guilty, of the gaol to follow the prisbner Hall, and not to foae Bight of him, The Native, was
