■'■.' A meeting of thfi North Canterbury Bace , Club was held< at the Club Hotel, Rangiora, , yesterday afternoon. There was a good .attendance of tho members, and Mr Parsons i occupied the chair. ■ The Secretary read tho annual balance .sheet, which; showed that there had been a

t balance in hand from last year of £74 3b lOd. ' ''Entries and acceptances, eale of privileges, „ &c.,.£148 3s 6d j subscriptions, &c., £67 18s ' 6d, making tho total receipts £290 5s lOd. The expenditure had boon £219 Us'; protest refunded, £2 j sundries, £39 16a ' 6d, leaving a balance in baud of £28 18s 4d. f , On the iqo,tion ,of Mr Duncan, seconded by Mr J. Lilly, tho balance-sheet and report " were duly received., and adopted. It was stated that Beveral further subscriptions were 'to be paid in. '•• A question of a dispute in reference to the payment of a Calcutta Sweep paid in error to a Mr R. Lovoi was". disoussed, and it was decided that the porson be communicated with inTespect thereto,, and he, be requested to refund tho amount, within, a month, or the matter would bo ,ieportod to the 0.J.0. Ultimately it .was decided to pay Mr. T. Sheenan tbo amom.t of the sweep, ua the meeting considered the eividence sufficiently favourable to .his roceiyipg it. . ' - : 1 Tho mooting then proceeded to discuss the; question of improving' tho 'racecourse, and it was decided to leave the matter inthe hands; of the present Ground Committee, viz., Messrs Roberts, .Lilly, ...J. -Surt, and H. Moody. The advisability of securing tho ' tenure of the ground to the Club in conjunction with the Agricultural and Pastoral Association was fully discussed, and it was decided to defer tliCjquestion, till tho Steward of Reserves had intimated his ■. decision in the matter. The meeting then terminated with a vote of thanks to tho Chairman.
