FIRE IN THE HARBOUR.

Abont3a.ni. to-day some men working at the jlmrqugßinlto, noticed a fire oa board one of the /small oraft lying in Dompier's Bay, and immoI dlately put off to her. On getting alongside they [ found it was the schooner Volunteer, and that her galley was burning. Immediate steps were taken by them to extinguish the fire, and other assist* anceooming off, the fire in about half an hour's time was extinguished. The Volunteer is a small Boboonor belonging to Mr Smith, of Le Bon's Bar, and trades between that. 'Bay and the Irorfc. She arrived laat night, about 10 o'clock with a cargo of posts and rails and sleeper?, aid brouzht up in Dampier Bay. There were on board at the time, the master, H, Larsen, and one man, P. Thoro, After seeing the Teasel safely anchored they turned in, and were aroused by toe mon from the Bialto coming alongside, when they turned oat and fouud the galley burning. The galley whioh was a small one, and fixed on the : starboard side of the vessel, just between the forward part or.thG hatch and the foremast, is complc--tely destroyed; tho deck was partly bnrned through, .combings of tho hatch, and the hatches partly burned. Tho foreboom and gaff and foresail also took fire, the foresail being completely destroyed, while the spars are so burnt as to render them useless ; the foremast alEo!iß|somowhat oharred. The fire in the stove in the galley was out by 7 p.m. last sight, the men having had their tet between 5 and 0 o'clock, and they snppose that some embers mast liavo got through tho bottom of the galley and on Jo the deck, and hnye be^u the cause of the fire.
