THE LATE MR CUMBERWORTH.

An immense congregation assembled on Sunday evening at the Sydenham Weslejan Church where a sermon was preached by the Rev. J. S. Smalley in connection with the decease of the late Mr Cumberworth. The choir opened the service by singing an appropriate anthem entitled " Blessed are the deal that die in the Lord." The hymns were all in harmony with the occasion. The text selected by ( he preacher was Revelations vi ., from tin- fli-h verse to end of chapter — " I saw a great multitude, which no man could number, &c." After the exposition of the passage, the congregation were invited to sing the 58th Hymn in Sankey's collection — " Washed in the blood of the Lamb." Tho preacher then read a short biographical sketch of the deceased, following it up by suitable reflections, closing his remarks by dwelling upon the last words of the chapter — " and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes." At this stage the whole congregation were deeply affected, many to tears. The service concluded by ainging the well-known hymn — " For ever with the Lord."
