DRAINAGE WORKS.

Yesterday tho last piece in the line of egg shaped sewer in Madras street, from the river to the Norfch Belfc, was arched over. At the northorn end, workmen wero engaged in filling up the remaining length ;of the old ditch, and now thero are only a few covors to be fitted down, for the completion of tho whole of tho work in this street. Along the North Belt, the cutting has reached nearly to Manchester street, huge stumps of trees, very boggy pieces of ground, and springs of water, forming the characteristics of the ground. In one place, the roadway has subsided more than two feet, and a house in line therewith now stands at a most uncomfortable looking angle. Tho contractors for the storm-water sewer in Antigua street have completed laying tho concrete invert along tho whole length, from the river to the centre of the South Belt. At the latter point the brick sower which runs along the belt has been tapped, and a considerable amount of the water therefrom will eventually flow along Antigua street. Yesterday tho workmen were almost afc a standstill for want of bricks, and, but for fche delay which arises on this account, I the street would soon be thrown open for traffic. At present a very long length of the brick arch has to be built.
