Active stops are about to be taken to establish the proposed Fire Brigado. Their services are much roquired. Tho first annual general meeting of fche shareholders in the Oamaru Stone Company was held last night. A very satisfactory report and balance-sheet were read and adopted, and the retiring electors were reelected. The roporfc shows that the operations of the Company have been very profitable. A man named George O'Brien, who had sustained serious injuries from a fall of earth at Maheno, was brought into tho Hospital, whero he died immediately afterwards.
John Madden, an old offonder, was arrested this morning for assault and robbery, at Humber streot on Saturday night lasfc.
