KAIAPOI SOHOOL COMMITTEE.

The usual monthly meeting of tliis Comanitjee was held at the school office, Hilton street, Kaiapoi, on Monday evening ; present — Messrs Johnston (chairman), Coup, lSerell, Mathews, and Pashley. Letters were read from the Board of Education— (l) giving permission to advertise for a fourth year pupil teacher in tho placo of Miss J. l'ashley, resigned ; (2) stating that tho .Board were now in a position to purchase a uite for and build a master's house, and asking if Mr Butt's offor of a site were still open. — A letter was read from Mr Rayner in answor to that of Mr Mennio's, which had been referred to him by the Committee at tho last meeting. — The Chairman stated that no applications had been received for tho situations of either second master or fourth year pupil teacher, and he greatly feared that there was very little ohanco of there being any afc tho salaries offered by tho Board, which were not suflicient, afc any rate in fche case of fcho second master to induce a competent person to apply. He also stated thafc on receipt of the Board's letter re the master's house he had seen Mr Butt, who had informed him that his offer was still open. Ho had then written to tho Board, informing them of tho faot, and had referred the Board to Messrs Harman and Stevens for title, &c. He now hoped that thero was no obstacle in the way of having the master's house erected at once. He then referred to Mr Rayner's letter regarding Mr Mennio's complaint , and considered the master's letter perfectly satisfactory. — It was resolved, on fcho motion of Mr Mathows, seconded by Mr Coup — "That Mr Rayner's explanation be deemed satisfactory." — Accounts amounting to £10 Os 2d wero passed and ordered to be paid.4-The Chairman etat ed that thero were accounts amounting to botween £20 and £30 passed for payment, for wliich thero were nd funds available. — Resolved — "That the Secretary send a list of the liabilities of tho Committeo to tho Board, and request thorn to provido funds so that fche Committee might pay them off before the expiration of their torm of oflice, mere especially as a large portion of the liabilities had been incurred in executing noccssary repairs to the building. — Resolved — "That tho aotion taken by the Chairman regarding tho erection of tho master's house and purohaso of site, bo approved." — The Chairman stated that the whole of thg amounts had now come in for the lato Bohool treat, and he was happy to soy that there was a small balance in hand, as shown by fcho balance-sheet. Tho total receipts had been £J8 ls 9d, and tho expenditure £36 Os sd, leaving a balance of £2 Is 4d.
