On the motion of Mr Saltmarshe, seconded by Mr E. R. Pavitt, the report and balancesheet as read were unanimously adopted. On the election of officers being proceeded with, Mr R. J. S. Harman was unanimously re-elected President of the Club, and Messrs A. F. N. Blakiston and G. L. Mellish as the Vice-Prcsidents. As Captain of the Club,Mr J. O. Jones was re-elected amid considerable applause, the opinion being expressed that the Club was greatly indebted to him. Mr L, M. Ollivier? wa9 elected Deputy-Captain, also amid hearty applause. Mr E. J. Paul was once more chosen as Secretary, the members evidently feeling that they could not possibly make a better selection. Mr J. E. Brewster was elected Treasurer, and tho following seven gentlemen, some of the oldest members, were re-elected as a Committee for the ensuing year: — Mcbsts R. D. Thomas, J. R. Evans, A. R. Pavitt, E. Denham, B. C. Mounier, Thos. Taylor, and S. S. Revans. The following new members were elected :— Messrs H. Selwyn Smith, jun., J. Ballantyne, G. Caliender, R. A. Joseph, R. J. Sharp, E*. M. Davie, A. B. Paul, D. Souter, D. C. Turner, J. E. Wright, E. Winter, — Nixon, T. Dawson, C. B. Dobson, Q\ SutclifEe, Hi Goodwin, J. S. Field, F. T. Morgan, Gh C. Lanauze, and Chas. Mann. As delegates to the United Canterbury Rowing Club, the Captain (Mr J. O. Jones) and one of the Vice-Presidents (Mr G. L. Mellish) were elected. From the remarks which were made, it would appear that the duties of the delegates are a sinecure, the body in question being heard of only in connection with interprovincial regattas. It was resolved that a bonus of ten guineas be given to Mr Rees, the custodian. His attention to the property of the club was spoken of in terms of the warmest commendation. Mr Bull proposed a vote of thanks to Mr Trevor Grierson for his past services, and in doing so expressed the regret which was universally felt that Mr Grierson, who had proved so energetic a treasurer, should have been compelled to leave the Club. The Chairman baring also referred to the services which Mr Gricrson had rendered, the motion was carried mm con, the secretary being requested to forward a copy of the resolution to Mr Gricrson, who is now in Dunedin. The Chairman here requested that a Committee might be appointed to select and report upon an eligible site for a permanent boat-shed. They already had several sites in view, and as their present fixture was a very precarious one, it would be well that immediate action should be taken, and that a report on the whole question — including an estimate of tho probable cost — should be submitted to a general meeting. The following members were chosen as the Select Committee : — Messrs Harman, Thomas, Mounier, Revans, and J. O. Jones. Mr Little referred to the desirability of taking steps to have some of tho trees which overhung tho river cleared away. He moved — " That the Committee be requested to wait upon the Boards interested, to urge that this very desirable work might bo clone." The motion was carried, and the Chairman undertook that the matter should receive attention. Mi- Bull advocated the claims of those members who did not enter for races, but who were members of the Club because of the pleasure which boating afforded them. He though there should be boats provided for all classes of the members, and that when uny new ones were ordered the Committee should bear this in mind. The Chairman thought Mr Bull was under a misapprehension, as tho Club had at the present time no fewer than nine boats which wove used simply for purposes of pleasure. The subject was allowed to drop. 'Ihe Chairman returned thanks for his reelection as Captain, and asked that all the members should provide themselves with the simple uniform of the Club, as described in the by-laws. It was a matter which he cortuinly must bring before the Committee unless this dosirablo rule were observed. Another point to which ho desired to draw attention was that the proper oars and sculls should always be taken, and that the custodian should be given a-hand in getting: boats into the shed when done with. One other point was that too many dogs were permitted to accompany members to tho sheds; the cualorn had got to be a nuisance. ' A card of races would this year be sent to every member, and the members would be informed as soon as possible of the date of the opening day. • . A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings.
