Tho Oouncil mot afc the ÜBual hour; present — His Worahip th« Mayor, Councillors Allwright, Cunningham, Holmea, Willcox, Macdonald, and Parsons. — Tho reoeipts for fche past fortnight were reported as having amounted to £3 12s. — Tho following correspondence was rc:id : — From the TJi. dorSecretary of Crown Lands stating that the Government would agree to reserve to tho Council under Ciuuao 350 of the Act an area of 1949 ucres of rural lands, which, togother with the reserves already made, will make tho full complement allowed by tho Acfc, also stating that when tho Council recommended the laud desired, tho necessary stopß would bo taken. Tho matter wa3 lef fc in the hands of tho Estates Oammitteo. — From Mr John Thompson applying for tho situation of Foreman of Works for carrying out tho water supply distribution. Ifc was resolved that Mr Thompaon ehould bs informed fchat no such appointment would be made. — From tho Clerk of the Assessment. Court stating that Thursday, March 8, had been fixod for hearing tho objections to the R_.to Roll. — Ib was decided that tho Borough Solicitor should be instructed to defend tho valuations. — From tho Borough Solicitor, re the encroachments on the Joyco Town rocd — From Mr W. Graham, asking to have the grating in fronfc of his houso in Oxford street removed to tho cornor of Oxford and Rinon streets. Tho lofctor was referred to tho Works Committeo, with power to act. — From Messrs B. P_t; r_rvii and Co., asking if tho Council had decided to light the town clock permanently. After discussion, ifc was decided, upon the motion of Councillor Ali-'igiit, ..ended by Councillor Holmes, tii-r. M.-_srs Peter-en and IGo. be informed thai' ho Council -;irt not intend lighting tho dock at present. — Tho Inepector of Nuisances reported that MiMiller had taken _ <' £ .s to abate the nuisance complained of at tho 1 ist meoting. — The Foreman of Works reported tr ;it good progress had been made with laying the water-pipes in the town, over half a mile of piping having . now been, laid on Norwich Quay, Canterbury, Oxford, and Dublin streets.
