[Br Telegbaph.pbom oub Special CobbesrONDEHT.] EIGHTH MATCH. ALL-ENGLAND v. INVEROARGILL. INVEBCABGILL, March 6. The matoh betweon the All England Eleven and Twenty -two of Invercargill, has caused an unusual stir here. A large crowd around the railway station at noon betokened the arrival of the All England Eleven, who were received by a number of the local cricketers and conducted to their quarters afc the Albion Hotel. Unfortunately, the weather during the morning was very wet, rendering necesB»ry a consultation with Lillywhite as to whether the Eleven should play or not. Having made enquiries as to the nature of the ground, he decided to go with the Eleven to the field and have lunch, and afterwards determine whether ifc would be practicable to play ; accordingly, after taking a couple of hours' rest, which they muoh needed, having been travelling all night by special train and coach from Dunedin, the Eleven proceeded to the ground, w hore they were entertained at luncheon, hiß Worship the Mayor, as President of the Club, occupying the Chair, supported on his right by Lillywhite, captain of the English Eleven, and on his left by Reade, captain of tho Invercargill men. The Vicechair was occupied by F. W. Wade, Vice-President of tho local club. The weather still holding fino, Wade and Bennett (of tho English Eleven) umpires, proceeded to select a wicket. A good spot was found about the middle of fche cricket ground, and fche stumps were pitched in line with tho northern and eastern corners of the enclosure. The captains tossed for place about 20 minutes to four, and the Englishmen losing, Reade decided to send them to the wickets, and Invercargill to the fiold. Play began a'_ 10 minutes to four. Jupp and Hill first went to the wickets, to fche bowling of Howell, who clean bowled Hill the second ball. Two byes wero then obtained, and then Hayward went on to bowl, bufc Jupp only made 1 off thafc over. Jupp then drove one to long-off for 2 which, with a wide, wero all mado off Howell's over. Charlwood sent the ball for a possible 1, bufc it was cleverly fielded ; ho then drove another for 1, and two othe*s for nothing. In the following over Charlwood made 2 and two singles. Hayward bowled a maiden, Charlwood, after fche laat ball, being given out leg before wicket ; two for 11. went in, Jupp facing the bowling. Nothing bufc a wide came of the two succeeding overs, but on the second ball of the next Jupp gave a catch, which was well taken by John Morrison ; three for 12. Ulyetfc now camo out. The first ball given him was a wide, and in the next over another ; but scoring was slow, ths fielding being particularly good. John Wesney took Howell's place, and he and Hayward both bowled maidons. Ulyett then made a grand cut and tried to run two, but tho ball was returned too quickly for him by Levy, and ho lost his bails- four for 19. Green wocd was now sent in, but had nothing to do in hit first over, a maiden by Hayward. In tho noxt Greenwood cleverly stole a run. Tho game was then stopped for a spell through a slight shower. On resuming Selby and Greenwood raised the ecoro by fino play, including two or throe 4's nf>ieeo v f?r bails driven out of the ground; the former had scored 27, and tho latter 41 by tho time tho stumps were drawn.
