+. [Peb Anglo-Austbalian Pbess Telegbaph Agency.] 6.25 p.m. The captain of the s.s. Macgregor was summoned to the Police Court for a breach of section 29 of the Post-office Eegulations Act by refusing to deliver up certain mails in his possession, on demand for them being made by the Postmaster. Mr M'Oormick, for the defendant, said the captain was certainly entitled to some remuneration for bringing the mails, and that an endeavour would be made fcrsettle the case amicably by consulting Mr Yogel. The Court adjourned till half-past one to allow time for a settlement of the dispute. The charge against the captain of the Maogregor was withdrawn. The counsel for the defendant stated that Capt. Grainger was instructed to act as he had done by the owners of the vessel, and did not know that he was breaking the law, but as he was now satisfied that he had adopted an unwarrantable course, he would give up the mails immediately. 7.15 p.m. The Auckland Steam Packet Company's claim of £267 against the Macgregor is in the hands of Mr Whitaker. The captain refusing its recognition, Mr Whitaker threatens to detain the vessel unless an amicable arrangement is made before midnight, the advertised hour of sailing. The delivery of the mails by the captain of the Macgregor was unconditional, Mr Yogel refusing to negotiate terms of payment pending their delivery. 8 p.m. The Auckland Steam Packet Company's claim against the Macgregor has just been Battled. She leaves at midnight. Poet Chalmebs, Sept. 15. Arrived.— Ladybird, from Lyttelton. Sailed. — Taranaki, for Lyttelton, at 4 p.m. The s.s. Bruce sailed on her first trip to Lyttelton this evening.
